Technologies, relationships and ourselves by Daniel Felipe Cartagena Perez

In this text I would like to answer the question about how technologies affect and influence in our relationships.
To begin I am going to describe the main two concepts in this essay, they are technology and relationships, in order to clarify the purpose in this written task. There are a lot of kinds of relationships most of which are related with given social structures. It means we accept external rules when we accept the current social relationships.
The definition of technology has a close meaning with the Latin concept of what ‘natura’ is (Natura such as a synonym of the physical laws). For instance, a monogamous society or our moral mechanisms are as technological as a cellphone. Therefore, technology does not just mean a device made with chips, electronic circuits and touch screens; technology is a wider concept.
With these two references we can build a better knowledge about the main question that we asked in the first lines. If we wanted to understand most complex relationships: friendship, family and love, we should simplify the question and the purpose of that. In order to get it, I am going to rewrite the question in a new and similar way: How do technologies affect and influence the relationship with ourselves? Furthermore, what is the relationship with oneself in the technical age? In my opinion, those are the actual question and the most simple too.
However, if we made seriously those questions, we would have to forget a piece of our given moral and customs because they could create a hard surface around what things we can question.
It is evident that time is one of the key words in this discussion. Technological devices make us waste in a lonely way our days. We spend more time watching videos in youtube or twitter than thinking about our daily routine. Our lives seem written before we were born and the way to implement the ‘life project’ is by restricting with technologies. One example of this is the TV which could be useful if we watched to entertain us but we have found there the main source of truth.

To conclude, we need more time to share with others. Actually, time is one of the most important elements in any relationship but we mainly need time to share with ourselves. Perhaps, the relationship with oneself is the most simple and useful, too.
