Does Tecnology Affects Human relationship? by Mariluz Vanegas Cardenas

DOES TECHNOLOGY AFFECTS HUMAN’S RELATIONSHIPS?

Within the last 20 years, technology has suffered a lot of changes in many different disciplines such as medicine, aviation, communications, and computational tools in general. This advances have completely changed the way in which humans develop their daily activities. For example, nowadays humans are supposed to use less their brute force while we are being constrained to think more and propose different ideas in order to sort out all kind of problems that we have. At the same time, machines and computational tools facilitate the activities that we have to perform at school, at work, or in every situation that humans deal with. However this wasn’t a sudden change, and it has not stopped yet. Every year a new technology appears making it challenging for the population to get used to different ways to confront their own life continually.

One of the things that has changed the most as technology thrusts forward,  is the way that humans communicate with each other.  Thanks to technology advances, there are a lot of devices available such as smartphones, tablets and computers that allow video calls for instance and a countless list of options to communicate. Although there are a lot of possibilities to relate with others, there are many people that disagree with this new way of relationships between humans while many others completely support the idea of relating with other people through the screen of a device.

The people that say that technology affects human relationships in a positive way, coincide that technology has been very productive helping humans relationship because technology lets people communicate instantly with people on the other side of the world. people can see even each other using apps that enable video calls, so you can feel like being next to someone you love while being thousands of miles away from each other. In addition, the most common way to relate with others at this moment is texting. It lets
you have really long conversations with one person, or a a whole battalion at the same time, letting people share photos, videos, and audios of their daily life or the work they are doing.

On the other hand, many people say that technology is not a good partner for human relationship because while you can communicate with people that are far away, you are laying aside people who are near to you. Human relations tend to be carried through a device, either texting or with video calls, but “real” communication, face to face with people next to you, is being forgotten. Besides this eagerness of communicating using technological devices forces people to endlessly things like smartphones and tablets, and even worse, people have to continuously change the device they own for newer technologies, producing tons of waste every year.

I think that technology makes it easier to relate with other people, letting you communicate with people that are far away from you,  show them pictures of the places where you are, and sharing videos of special moments such as birthday celebrations. However, it is the responsibility of people, to give a good manage of this very powerful tools that they have on their hands because the opportunity of communicating with someone on the other side of the world can not turn you into a completely stranger with your friends or even worse with your family.
